Or Solomon is a Tel-Aviv born Israeli/French pianist, composer and improviser. His life-long musical research has led him to develop an original approach to the piano as a sound generator, drawing his inspiration from all interrelated dynamics often resulting in abstract expressionist forms.
Solomon was classically trained by Prof. Victor Dereviankô until the age of 17 and began improvising in response to paintings as early as 13 years old. His need for free expression compelled him to pursue broader genres. In 1993, at the age of 22, he moved to France to discover all the musical possibilities in the great scene that thrived in Paris of the 90s. He discovered African traditional music which introduced the concept of music as a language to him, and was immersed in a multicultural experience practicing free jazz, pop, rock, Black American and French music, which led him to new creative pathways.
His interpretative skill and recognition as a piano virtuoso is a mirror of the unusual trajectory of his career and the diversity of his artistic collaborations with numerous French and international artists. From 2000-2006 Or joined Magic Malik Orchestra, one of the most coveted French new progressive jazz quintets, led by flutist Malik Mezzadri, where Solomon pioneered an original set up using pick-ups, effect pedals and amplifiers, widely contributing to the original sound signature of the Orchestra.
Or Solomon collaborated with Sébastien Martel, Camille, Tony Allen, Franz Clochard - Mécanique Vivante, Médéric Collignon, David Linx, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Brice Wassi, Hilaire Penda, François Jeanneau, Mathieu Boogaerts, Mike Ladd, Camus Camara, Renaud Gabriel Pion, Sanseverino, Sylvain Kassap,
Steve Dalachinsky, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Abdullah Miniawy, Yoram Rosilio, pianist and conductor for the Dante tour of Abd Al Malik, …
In 2012 his first self-produced album ‘Round-trips, piano solo’ was released to media attention, noted for its exceptional poeticism.
A peerless improviser, Solomon was invited by the Galeries nationales - Grand Palais in Paris to perform as part of the retrospective exhibition Georges Braque for the Nuit Blanche 2013 (Sleepless Night) international arts festival. Responding to the work of the founder of Cubism, Solomon explored his relationship to improvisation, composition, and the inspiration that art and music lend each other. Subsequently a second self-produced solo album ‘Improvisations pour Georges Braque‘ was put forth in 2014.
Having spent the last several years travelling between Paris and Berlin exchanging ideas with other musicians, artists, painters, dancers, choreographers, students, art-therapists (...) Or Solomon develops and challenges contemporary notions of sound and aesthetics across creative fields.
In 2019 Or initiates the Berlin based improvised music ensemble Lightning Orchestra.

Or Solomon est un pianiste, compositeur et improvisateur français-israelien né à Tel-Aviv. Ses recherches musicales de longue date l'ont amené à développer une approche singulière au piano en tant que “générateur de sons”. Exprimant par là toute la palette des émotions, il puise son inspiration dans les dynamiques interrelationnelles aboutissant souvent à des formes expressionnistes abstraites.
Or suit une formation classique avec Prof. Victor Dereviankô jusqu'à l'âge de 17 ans, tout en commençant à improviser en réponse à des peintures dès l'âge de 13 ans. Son besoin de liberté d’expression le pousse à explorer des genres plus divers. En 1993, à l'âge de 22 ans, il s'installe en France afin de découvrir toutes les possibilités musicales qu’offre la scène qui foisonne à Paris dans les années 90. Il y découvre la musique traditionnelle africaine, la musique en tant que langage, et se plonge dans une expérience multiculturelle, pratiquant la musique free jazz, pop, rock, afro-américaine et française, ce qui le conduit vers de nouveaux sentiers créatifs.
Sa reconnaissance en tant que virtuose du piano à la nuance et au vaste talent interprétatif s’exprime notamment par la trajectoire inhabituelle de sa carrière et la diversité de ses collaborations avec de nombreux artistes français et internationaux. De 2000 à 2006 il est l’un des membres clés du Magic Malik Orchestra, l’une des formations de jazz progressif français les plus convoitées, dirigée par le flûtiste Malik Mezzadri. Il y met au point un système original en se servant de capteurs, de pédales à effets et d’amplificateurs qui a contribué à l’identité sonore du groupe.
Autres collaborations menaient avec Sébastien Martel, David Linx, Franz Clochard et la Mécanique Vivante, Tony Allen, Médéric Collignon, Camus Camara, Camille, Sylvain Kassap, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Steve Dalachinsky, François Jeanneau, co-fondateur du trio Sighfire avec Peter Corser et Hasse Poulsen, Abdullah Miniawy, Yoram Rosilio, Sanseverino, Frédéric Nevchehirlian, Brice Wassi, Hilaire Penda, Mathieu Boogaerts, Renaud Gabriel Pion, Mike Ladd, Napoléon Murphy Brock, pianiste et chef d'orchestre lors de la tournée Dante d'Abd Al Malik en 2009, …
En 2012, son premier album auto-produit, ‘Round-trip-piano solo’, attire l'attention des médias spécialisés, souligné notamment par son sens exceptionnel de poésie.
Improvisateur hors pair, Solomon est invité à se produire par les Galeries nationales - Grand Palais à Paris lors de l’exposition rétrospective Georges Braque pour la Nuit Blanche 2013. En réponse à l’œuvre du fondateur du cubisme, le pianiste explore sa relation à l’improvisation, à la composition et l'inspiration que l'art et la musique se prêtent entre elles. Par la suite, le deuxième album solo auto-produit ‘Improvisations pour Georges Braque‘ voit le jour en 2014.
Ayant passé ces dernières années entre Paris et Berlin à échanger des idées avec de nombreux artistes, musiciens, peintres, danseurs, chorégraphes, élèves et art-therapist (...) Or Solomon développe et remet en question certaines conceptions contemporaines du son et de l’esthétique dans les différents domaines créatifs.
En 2019 Or à initier l’ensemble berlinois de musique improvisée Lightning Orchestra.
